Wordpool - The Future of Journalism Part 1

Audio: Wordpool - The Future of Journalism Part 1

Join veteran journalists Margaret Simons and Matthew Condon as they discuss how old media is meeting its digital future.

Barely a month goes by without news of staff cuts or restructuring at major newspapers, or in the US and the UK, newspapers stopping presses and closing their doors forever. This tide of change has been brought about thanks to the web and the rise of digital media. Claims abound of the 'death of journalism'. But is the web really killing the news? Or, is it fostering an entirely new form of journalism?

I have been saying it for a long long time, "New media" will shape the way us media folk do things. I do not belive that this will be the death of journalism....rather the birth of a new age of journalism. Journalists and media companies need to embrace this change and new technology and use this new fantastic method of information delivery and audience connection and interaction. A fine example of this, is this website "Pool", they do that right here with a "User generated website", where the user is the one who builds the website by sharing their work and embrace the new technology to interact. I myself do pod casting and online documentaries and have a base of 2.5 million followers around the world who access my works on a weekly basis. Digital media is here now and is a very powerful tool. Embrace it. Don't fight it.
