Blog: Heard it all before?
Here at Pool we have noticed a bit of a boom in audio uploads in the last couple of weeks so as part of the yearly recognition of all that is Australian, here are a few of the newest sounds to come from "Down Under".
We often hear a couple of verses of Waltzing Matilda belted out around this time of year. Some thoughts that may follow – What a catchy little number? Wouldn’t it make a great national anthem? Thank goodness the chorus is simple and slow for my beer-soaked brain to keep up with... But something that may get lost is the meaning behind the melody.
Sweet Mathilda Waltz by Datson Hughes draws on themes at the very heart of Waltzing Matilda – a way through life’s cycles of prosperity and decline. The mold-breaking melody in 3/4 waltz-time asks listeners to reflect on what “waltzing Matilda” really means. For more on this theme take a squiz at Pool's Matilda Myth project.
waves_away has recently contributed a couple of fabulous pieces that are Day in a Life and Signature, which feature 12 string acoustic guitar and vocals being warped in a way that gives it a great summer feel.
