I expected to see kangaroos and emus on the plains between Townsville and Mt Isa. I think I spotted two kangaroos - yes, only two - and Greg didn't manage to see one at all. But on the stretch from Cloncurry to Mt Isa, we saw camels in the distance and then one decided to race the train. It stayed the course for quite a while - and managed to crack a faster pace at times than the steam engine - before veering off into the distance.
